Sing a Happy Tune

Setting a daily positive attitude is one of the most worthwhile things we can create. One of my favorite past Yoga teachers, Tao Porchon-Lynch, often said, “When I wake up in the morning, I know that it's going to be the best day of my life." If we go about our day as a big "To Do" list, or with the feeling of compulsion, avoidance, or dread, things don't go so well. How much better we can create our days with a dose of optimism and setting a positive attitude upon waking.

It's easy to begin the day on auto pilot and to get caught up in things, and it may take hours before noticing, pausing, and setting a better course. On days when I take time to relax and get still for a bit before hopping out of bed, I start the day aware of more things- like the birds singing, how I'm feeling and thinking, and what I'd like to accomplish today. It helps me set a more peaceful, joyful, hopeful outlook for the day. Often on those days, I find myself singing in the shower and humming a happier tune throughout the day. Without negative mental clutter, I'm more relaxed, I get more done, and I enjoy more presence in what comes.

What's the first thing you think about when waking? When did you last sing in the shower? If you don't already, try to remember to set a positive intention each day as you wake. Sing and play some happy tunes, and see how that helps you to create.
