Wobble Around Your Center

Balance doesn't mean stasis or even-ness. To me, it's more of a wobble around a center, or a harmony amongst parts that can often become disharmonious. If you stand on one foot, for instance, you'll either fall down, or you'll need to find your new center of gravity and shift so that you find stability over your standing leg. You're not really standing still, it's more of a constant interplay of your leg and core muscles that can keep you upright when you're balanced and centered.

If you're doing a creative deep dive, you may find that lots of other things get put on hold for awhile; but in time, you need to come up for air, to eat, to move your body, and take care of other responsibilities. To create we need to focus, center, and find our flow. But if you stay too long in your creative rabbit hole, and ignore all the other things calling you, at some point it may feel like you're on tip.

I like to start my day with a yoga practice to keep things harmonious in my body, mind, and heart. I follow up with a few necessary chores to keep things harmonious in my home. These help me to keep a balance so I can dive wholeheartedly into my creative work, whether I'm teaching, writing, or illustrating.

How will you keep balance in your life today?
