Some of us creative folk have a hard time winding it all down at night. Here's what I've found best helps promote a good night's rest:
- Avoiding screens for at least 2 hours before bedtime
- Doing some gentle forward folding and hamstring stretches for a few minutes to promote the rest/digest/relax parasympathetic nervous system
- Getting to bed within the same half hour each night (if I go earlier, I toss and turn awhile; and if I go later, I've often gotten my second wind and lay awake for too long)
- Reading a few pages of something uplifting and thinking positive thoughts right before bed
- Sleeping with my eyes shaded so that light doesn't interrupt my sleep cycles
- And, most importantly, sleeping on a quality, comfy mattress that doesn't cave in and make me sleep on tilt
Ah, just thinking about it makes me look forward to bedtime. I hope you, too, get a good night's sleep tonight so we can all have another great day of creating tomorrow.
