Take Your Project to Shore

I'm a beach lover and every day is a great day to be at the beach. Sometimes when the weather's turbulent and the ocean's rough, surfers come out to take advantage of the long swelling waves. They sit on their boards, facing the sea, patiently waiting, observing, and choosing which wave to take. When they see what looks like a good one coming, they paddle out to it quickly and hop up to stand and catch the surf. Sometimes they fall, and when they do, they get back on board and wait for the next good one. Other times they're able to enjoy the thrill as they ride the wave all the way to shore.

Creating is a little like surfing. Sometimes the waves are low, and we don't get a lot of inspiration or motivation to carry on. Still we can watch the trends, see what others are doing, and explore the opportunities and possibilities. When we find and choose a worthwhile project to pursue, then we can try riding the creative wave by focusing our willpower and energy towards it with gusto. Not every creative wave taken will succeed, and you'll likely have some wipeouts. When this happens, harness the learnings and let them help you choose and go after the next creative wave. Enjoy the creative process as you go, and in time you'll succeed in taking more of your projects all the way to shore.
