How much time do you spend either letting your mind wander uncensored or actively worrying or thinking about specific tasks, problems, and concerns?
All of our thought processes contribute to what, how, and even if we create. Wandering minds can happen upon some interesting and quirky ideas but may keep us unfocused and unproductive. Ultra-focused minds are great for keeping to a timeline and completing things, yet can sometimes limit us from seeing possibilities and broadening our perspectives. Worrying minds can immobilize us or cause us to behave in anxious ways that aren't conducive to creating better relationships, products, health, art, or anything else except wrinkles and grey hairs.
A favorite mindset for creativity is to take time to wonder. Notice if your mind is wandering astray, and turn it to wonder: Maybe wonder if you can focus on one idea for a few minutes, and start capturing the best ideas. If you're ulta-focused, great, but pause once in awhile and wonder if your continued direction is best. And every time you find yourself distracted with anxiety, what if you ask some what if questions instead: What if I never worried again, what would I create in the world? What if the worst happens, then what would I do? What if the best happens, then what would I do? How can I best think and act now to create what I want to?
The habit of wonder may free you up to spend more time wondering and moving towards what you want to create rather than what holds you back. I wonder what will happen if you wonder about the best creative possibilities for you today?
