Widen Your View

Some of us spend the day with our eyes peeled towards our screens. It's important to look away and look around often to rest our eyes, stretch our ocular muscles, reduce strain, and see what else is happening.

When we lock into a particular view, we are closed to what else is around us. This is true on the physical level and also on an intellectual level. We see what we look for, and our beliefs and exposure to others' beliefs influence our perspectives. How can we widen our view? Rather than always seeing what's in front of us, we can look out the window, look at the sky, look out to the horizon. And when we get locked into a particular opinion, we can ask, "Have I looked at this as widely as possible, is there more to it that I don't know or am not seeing?" We can listen to the "other" news sources; we can ask more questions– especially of those who believe the opposite of us; and we can continually try to expand our understanding. Looking wider and deeper, what might you come to see?

Try to continually widen your viewpoint, and see what it creates in your life.
