Yin and yang describe opposite but always interconnected and mutually perpetuating forces.

Focusing on the contrasting aspects of something is dualism. But everything is not this or that; everything is this and that. The more we can embrace duality, the more we can understand the world around us. And maybe embracing duality can help us to be more connected with ourselves and one another. More connected, the better we might create.

Next time you're grappling with opposing forces in your life– joy and pain; love and fear; beauty and destruction; mine vs yours, this or that, or opposite points of view– try thinking "and" instead of "but" and "or." See if that helps you to integrate ideas, get along, and create better today.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy creating your best today! For instance, most artists and writers spend a lot of time creating on their own, as do many inventors and scientists.

Working with others is also a big part of creating. It's great to be able to make something on your own, but sometimes a collaborative effort brings greater rewards. In many fields, nothing new happens without a team. And even lone creators can benefit from a team to help with editing, marketing, and otherwise sharing their work.

Some of the important skills needed to collaborate well are communicating effectively, respecting others' diversity and points of view, and keeping an open mind.

Next time you're working with others, try noting if you feel resistance, and actively stay present and focused on the best solutions together. Eastman's picture book "The Best Nest," a couple of birds fly off with discontent to try to find a better nest. In the end, they wind up back where they started, but their process of finding and trying out new places is similar to how we sometimes go about searching for our place in the world.

If you create products, it's important to know your place in the market. If you make art and want to sell it, you need placement. If you're embraced by some of your family, and others have built walls against you, you'll know your place- because everything changes, including place. When products are no longer selling, product or placement needs to shift. When you're no longer fitting in or creating what you want, it might be time to move to a new place. For some, finding your place can be a once and done; for others it can be a continual refining of place.

As you come to know your place, you can create more of what you want in your home, community, and world. Be where you are, and create your best in the place you are today.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy creating your best today! I want to repeat, be you. Be the best you that you can be. The way to do this is to be kind to yourself and become comfortable with who and how you are. We all belong and are needed, even if we aren't the same. Comfy as you, you can decide what you want and how you'll create your best life.

How do you become comfortable with who and how you are? It's not always important what others think of you, but always and most important is what you think of yourself. If there's something you don't like about yourself, give yourself permission to stop deriding yourself. Instead, decide if, or what, you can change and go about creating it. Come to accept what you can't change, love yourself, be kind to yourself, watch your thoughts, and know that what makes you uniquely you also gives you your unique creative opportunities. It doesn't matter your hair or skin color; or gender; or sexual orientation; or age; or past traumas; or walk of life: When you're confidently yourself, others will see this first in you, and that's what will help you connect deeply with others and create your best life.

Embrace who you are and confidently create as only you can today.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy creating your best today! Workshops can be like mini discovery voyages that help us to understand deeper, to look with new eyes, and to broaden our vision. After a week of painting, I was seeing vibrant colors streaming effortlessly into water when I closed my eyes. And I still hear Jan coaching, "Let the paints flow and do what they're meant to do; Get out of the way and let the water and watercolors do the work; Stop pushing the paints around; Let go; Be like water; Less is more; Trust yourself and your guides; Follow your heart; Let the paintbrush dance; Leave space; You have the power to create what you want, fearlessly..." and many other pearls. Immersing in the process and watching the paint flow in new ways helped improve my skills, shift my inner process, and renewed a sense of possibility, uncovering more of my tendencies in the process. Hopefully my art will continue to improve as a result, as well as my ability to bring more flow into all aspects of life.

As you create, keep finding ways to refresh your practice, to look deeply and anew, and to keep a childlike wonder. It's important to know when to shift away from what you're currently creating and move on to something else. If you're bored, if you're no longer enjoying what you're creating, if your market has changed... it may be time to change it up, to shift and migrate your path to something better. Keep an eye on how you're feeling about all the aspects of what you're making. So, too, are adventuring off trail and trying new things. Sometimes we're paralyzed by the blank page or self-doubt or procrastination. To create, we need to take chances, as though we're daring the free fall. We might not know what will happen, but until we give it a try, we'll build excuses, resistance, anxiety- and often fear of failure. Especially, we need to believe that we can, and that we'll find our way through any creative blocks. Go ahead and try that new thing you've been avoiding today. See how it works out. Maybe it will bring you towards a new path on what you're creating. You won't know till you try.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy creating your best today! Going quickly, like I do with the sketches on this blog, has it's value, and can be freeing. I have a portable Dyson vacuum, and the charge on it lasts about 5 minutes- it's the perfect solution for quickly creating a cleaner space, as it's got a time limit.

Other things, like developing a style and persevering through difficulties, don't come so easily.
